Preparing for HAST.

Did you miss out on securing a position in the Selective Exam? With the way this year’s exam played out, it’s no surprise that even students who felt confident didn’t always get the result they hoped for. That’s why placing trust in a program and having a mentor to guide you is so important.

Although the Year 6 Selective Exam is the primary pathway into these schools, students have further opportunities to take selective exams in high school years 8-11, and many successfully transfer into selective schools during their secondary years. It’s important to note that these high school HAST exams go beyond Stage 3 knowledge, covering high school syllabus content, so students should not rely solely on their primary school studies.

At Precision, we help students prepare for the HAST (Higher Ability Selection Test) through programs that build higher-order thinking and a deep, holistic understanding of mathematics. By teaching mathematics strategically and conceptually, covering both critical thinking and essential content - we align with the exam’s focus on academic potential rather than just classroom achievement. This approach equips students with the skills, strategies, and mindset to approach the HAST with confidence and give themselves the best chance to succeed.

Getting into a selective high school gets harder each year because the number of applicants keeps increasing while the number of available spots stays the same. Why wait? Having found Precision, you can take advantage of our expertise now to support your child’s preparation and success.

How Does Precision Work Online?

1. Weekly Live, Two-Hour Lessons led by our Mathematics Specialists.

Each week, our maths specialists guide students through the topic by teaching important skills and question types, with plenty of chances for active participation.

A virtual classroom with multiple students and a teacher, showing a shared screen with math questions and solutions. The teacher's video window is on the bottom right, smiling and giving a thumbs-up, while other students are in separate video feeds, some smiling and waving.

2. Weekly Online Assessments with Detailed Solutions

Students receive a mix of multiple-choice, short-answer, and extended-response questions based on the week’s learning, accompanied by detailed written worked solutions.

An online mock exam titled 'Precision Mathematics Academy - Mini Mock Exam' with a timer showing 17 minutes remaining. The question asks for the value of x in a geometric figure, which is a pair of intersecting lines with angles labeled and different segments marked with ratios.
Handwritten notes explaining that the angle sum of a straight line is 180 degrees, with two methods for solving a math problem involving unknown angles, equations, and algebraic calculations.

3. Evaluation of Student Progress.

End-of-term High School styled Exam, including a combination of multiple choice, short and long answer responses.

Math exam paper for Precision Mathematics Academy, Term 3, Year 6, 2025, with instructions and total score.
Mathematics exam page with two questions: one involving algebraic fractions and another on probability with colored balls.

4. Feedback call with Principal.

Each student at Precision has two mentorship meetings involving the parent, student, and our principal, providing a dedicated space to discuss academic progress and development.
