Year 9 Mathematics Program

Our Year 9 courses, offered in Core and Path streams, are designed to help students succeed academically. Placement is personalised through a consultation with parents, where we review academic reports and performance.

Syllabus Change

This structure only applies to students in Stage 5 (Year 9 and 10)

What changed?

Streaming students into 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3 classes has historically predetermined their senior mathematics level by limiting the content they are taught and directing them towards specific pathways. This system is unfair, as it restricts opportunities and effectively confines students to predefined academic trajectories.

The curriculum has been divided into ‘Cores’ and ‘Paths’ topics.

‘The aim for most students is to demonstrate achievement of the Core and as many Path outcomes as possible by the end of Stage 5 and this should guide teacher planning.’ (NESA, 2024).

‘Pathways in Stage 5 must be carefully planned to ensure some students have the opportunity to engage with Advanced and Extension courses.’ (NESA, 2024).

Hence, here at Precision, we offer Year 9 CORE and PATH courses to tailor the curriculum to our students' abilities and their desired senior mathematics level.

How Does Precision Work Online? ………………………………………………………………………………

1. Weekly Live, Two-Hour Lessons led by our Mathematics Specialists.

Each week, our maths specialists guide students through the topic by teaching important skills and question types, with plenty of chances for active participation.

2. Weekly Online Assessments with Detailed Solutions

Students receive a mix of multiple-choice, short-answer, and extended-response questions based on the week’s learning, accompanied by detailed written worked solutions.

A mini mock exam on Precision Mathematics Academy with a question asking for the value of x in a diagram. The diagram shows two angles, one labeled 3/4 x and the other 1/2 x, with a third angle of 130 degrees between them. The options for the answer are 40, 44, 50, 45, and 52. The top right corner shows a countdown timer with 17 minutes and 55 seconds remaining.
Handwritten notes on a lined paper explaining that the angle sum of a straight line is 180 degrees, with two methods demonstrating solving for unknown angles using algebra and substitution.

3. Evaluation of Student Progress.

End-of-term High School styled Exam, including a combination of multiple choice, short and long answer responses.

A mathematics exam paper with instructions, total marks, and guidelines, issued by Precision Mathematics Academy for Year 6 students, Term 3, in 2025.
A math exam sheet showing two questions: algebraic expression simplification and probability with colored balls. Multiple choice options provided for each question.

4. Feedback call with Principal.

Each student at Precision has two mentorship meetings involving the parent, student, and our principal, providing a dedicated space to discuss academic progress and development.
